Östers IF lost 2-1 away to Falkenbergs FF thanks to a Hampus Källström double. The Thursday evening match at Falkenbergs IP was decided in the second half when the 22-year-old midfielder scored the opener and then a second.

The defeat means Öster remain stuck in the middle of the Superettan table. Falkenberg, meanwhile, climbed to second place, which would mean direct promotion to the top flight if maintained. Östers IF's last five matches have yielded two wins, one draw and two losses, according to our stats.

Källström's brace

After a goalless first half, the opener came from a sloppy midfield turnover by Öster. Källström received the ball to the left of the penalty area line and fired home for 1-0. Shortly afterwards he struck again, this time with his right foot past goalkeeper Carl Lundahl Persson.

Öster pulled a consolation goal back through Sebastian Starke Hedlund but could not find an equaliser. Dennis Olsson reflected on the loss in an interview with TV4. He said the team has to take one match at a time and wants to catch up towards the top of the table.

Falkenberg's confidence

Falkenberg player Albin Andersson praised his team's performance post-match. "We know we are good. We just have to show it in every match," he said, referencing a previous sub-par display against Oddevold.

Östers IF now turn their attention to their next fixture, a home game against IFK Norrköping on September 19. All upcoming fixtures can be found on our site. The team will need to rediscover the form that brought a 4-0 win over Högaborg last month.
